“…It’s a richer style, with some oatmeal savoury flavours, a viscous and glossy feel, but has bright well-integrated acidity. There’s some cinnamon and pastry dough, nectarine and a little spice, some chalkiness to texture, with a smooth finish of excellent length. It’s a full Chardonnay experience, but also shows such fine balance. I like this a lot.”
- Gary Walsh, The Wine Front
Low cropped fruit of Gin Gin Chardonnay clones from 21 year old vines on F Block representing the very best Chardonnay parcel grown at Toolangi Vineyard.
Tasting Notes:
A micro crop in 2022, the F Block produced just five barriques, a significant drop from the ten made in 2021. Of those, three were put through malolactic conversion. The nose features flint, jasmine, nectarine, green pear, and hints of fennel and almond meal. The palate is a full chardonnay experience, the flavours are all about stone fruit but the spread across the palate is impressive. There are secondary flavours of pastry, juicy lime acidity and chalky grip that we see in all great F Blocks! A challenging year has delivered what should be a long-lived example of this special plot.
Winemaking Notes:
Handpicked on the 3rd of March.
Vinification & Elevage: Whole bunch pressed to French oak (20% new) for wild fermentation, partial malolactic fermentation, on lees for 10 months.
Viticultural Notes:
2022 will be remembered for the tiniest yields in a decade resulting from poor flowering conditions in our part of the Yarra Valley. The quality of the resultant wines of this vintage however are outstanding with both concentration and finesse.

Chardonnay 100%
