2006 CHARDONNAY

JAMES HALLIDAY, AUSTRALIAN WINE COMPANION, 2009 Edition

Clean, fresh and bright, the innate complexity of texture not immediately obvious in an elegant wine, with neat balance between fruit and oak. Screwcap. Rating 92. To 2012.

HUON HOOKE, GOURMET TRAVELLER WINE, June/July 2008

This took time to spread its wings after opening with a slightly dull nose. Marzipan, vanilla and nutty aromas become increasingly complex as it airs and warms in the glass. Subtle, lean-ish and savoury in the mouth, this is a very satisfying drink.

RALPH KYTE-POWELL, THE AGE EPICURE, April 8 2008

Terrific value, Toolangi's bottom-end Yarra Valley chardonnay betters more expensive wines. The quietly complex nose has melon and lightly buttery aromas with hints of citrus, slate and nuts. In the mouth it's smooth and silky. Flavour is sustained and it finishes clean. (13.5% alcohol; screwcap)

Ageing? Drink over three years.
Food ideas: Pan-fried fish; sugar-cured salmon.
4 out of 5 stars
$$$ - A wine with a price tag which makes it a steal.

GARY WALSH, WINORAMA, April 15 2008

This is bang on the money when it comes to delivering a fairly priced Chardonnay that drinks like a champion. It's not a lot of things - over-made, heavy, cheesy, oaky, hot or expensive. It's just right and absolutely delicious. Clean and bright with a mix of melon, nectarine, citrus, grilled nuts, a bit of flint and some spicy dusty oak. On the palate medium weight with sweet juicy nectarine and citrus fruit and a little cream and spice. It's direct and fresh with balanced acidity and a clean long spicy finish. Perfectly made and great to drink.

NICK STOCK, THE PENGUIN GOOD AUSTRALIAN WINE GUIDE 2009

Looking good and right in the regional Yarra style, sweet lemon blossom, stone fruits and melon, just the right amount of savoury complexity curled around the fruit. The palate has a core of juicy fruit flavour, some oak spice, cashews and lines of bright acidity, running from start to mouth-watering finish. Score: 92. Quality: 4 stars. Alc/Vol: 13.5%. Drink: Now. Closure: screwcap.
