A reflective red hue in the glass, as is the case across all the Shiraz in the Toolangi range the wine pays homage to old world style with cured meats and leather aspects to dark plum fruit. The palate is generous but balanced giving ample dark fruits and sage inspired spice to the meaty, dark fruited finish. A very good value wine that will enjoy a good 5 or more years in the cellar.
2010 Estate Shiraz
This wine has some very similar characters to its younger sibling the 2010 'Yarra Shiraz' with respects to its old world expression of cured meats and earth, however in terms of fruit attractive dark cherry comes into play alongside varietal and regional plum fruit. This wine has a great presence - long, structured and complex. Dark fruits give way to grainy, savoury tannins with enough pepper and spice to provide contrast. The length to finish is very good. Drinking well now, this wine will continue to evolve over the medium term.
2010 Reserve Shiraz
The 2010 Toolangi Reserve Shiraz takes all that is good with the Yarra and Estate release and takes it to the next level, the dark fruited nose has a smoky savouriness that is both aromatic and engaging as the interplay between whole bunch inputs and fruit evolves with time in the glass. The palate is very Rhone like in the minerality and touch of iodine which is well matched by dark plum and cherry. The finish follows a similar vein to the palate with grainy tannins providing mouthfeel and accentuating the wines length, attractive baking spices linger alongside the dark fruits.
