Toolangi Chardonnay 2019

RRP: $30.00
SOLD OUT
HALLIDAY RATING: 95 POINTS
Tasting Notes: Opens with some subtle flint, moves into fresh oatmeal and citrus blossom with a little candle wax there too. The palate is juicy with grapefruit, lime and quince. Fine phenolics support a shapely core that is fresh through the finish.
Winemaking Notes: Fruit is crushed and pressed with juice solids to French oak barriques (10% new) for primary fermentation. Wine is sulphured on lees without malolactic conversion. 10 months on lees in oak.
Viticultural Notes: Hand-picked 4th and 5th of March 2019
Established in 1995, Toolangi Vineyards is in the Yarra Valley adjoining the Toolangi State Forest. This single site vineyard on fine clay loam produces wines with distinctive personalities, each wine showing a strong sense of place.
This Chardonnay is made from low cropped, hand harvested I10V3 and Mendoza Chardonnay clones from the 18 year old vines on A, B and G blocks.
Optimal conditions for both flowering and fruitset in the vineyards gave well balanced yields with plenty of promise leading into the 2019 harvest. A dry January and February followed, culminating in a relatively compressed vintage, though attention to detail in the vineyards gave winemakers wonderfully balanced fruit with concentration of flavour and exceptional natural acidity.
